Praise, Prayer, etc.

Dear Friends.
Well this is the rest of the story. Someone suggested that I should call this “Unbelievable Spots.” As you remember we ran over a large object in the interstate near Bonifay, Florida. After being towed in to a small mechanic shop, they determined that the oil pan was destroyed and also the left rear tire. They couldn’t fix it on the weekend so we spent Friday night there and on Saturday had a friend take is 45 miles so we could rent a car and go to our meetings in Louisiana. We returned late Wednesday and returned the rental car. We also found out that they were still working on the car and seemed to be having trouble. We spent the night again and then waited most of the day Thursday wondering if they would get it fixed. Finally it was all back together by about 3pm. We started home.
Actually we only got 3 miles before the car just quit. Waiting for a tow truck was very tiring and we were asking the Lord why we could not seem to be able to get our car out of Bonifay, FL. We were then towed in to a Chevy dealer and when the tow truck turned into the dealer he dropped the car and ruined the front left fender. We soon discovered that the oil pump was not working so the motor was ruined. Since we had 213,000 miles on it, puttying a new motor in it was not an option. WE had been praying for several months for the Lord to make it clear when we should trade and get a new one. It seemed that the answer was clear. Now was the time. It was about 4:30 by then and the rental cars would not rent a one way trip to Atlanta. Lord, What do you have in mind. I needed to get home so I could fly to Wisconsin for a weekend of ministry.
Then I asked the owner if he had and vans for sale. He showed us a 2006 Chevy van with on 9,022 miles on it and a price on $18,000. We asked about our old car which by this time was only good for junk. He then gave us a discount, called a trade in, of 2,000. so in another 30 minutes it was all done and we had a van to drive home. We got home in our new car about 1-am this morning. I made it to the airport by 9AM and am now in Waukesha, WI.
All we can say is Praise the Lord. I wanted the Lord to make it clear when we should get another car and he surely did. Sometimes he has to get our attention. We do need your prayers. We are asking the Lord to provide the funds for paying for this new car. Would you pray with us that He would direct those that He wants to be involved. Any funds can be sent to BMW marked for Jerry Smith Vehicle fund.
We have heard from many of you as you were upholding us in prayer. We will share with you what the Lord continues to do in our lives. All of you are special to us and we enjoy hearing from you.

New Advertisement for Mentoring Workshop

Mentoring for Ministry

Few churches have the problem of too many leaders; most of us struggle with shortages. You can have all the leaders you need right now within the congregation, but they will not surface without a proactive plan to identify and develop them.

At Biblical Ministries Worldwide, our passion is to start and grow biblically healthy churches around the world. BMW has been linking arms with “Companion Churches” that have a vision to produce leaders and missionaries from within their congregations, and has created a set of workshops to assist these churches in doing so. The first workshop is Mentoring for Ministry.

Mentoring for Ministry is an 8 hour workshop where you and your leadership team will receive practical suggestions to help you understand the biblical mandate to train servant leaders and then how to get started. Here are the major topics discussed.

§ Essence of the local church – discover how simple a church can be and still be biblical. You may be surprised!
§ The Church’s Mission – is to make disciples. But what does this mean? We’ll explore it from a thoroughly biblical perspective.
§ A Biblical Model of Discipleship – how did Jesus do it? How did Paul do it? Does it still work today?
§ Primary Role of Church Leaders – Role #1 is equipping the saints for the ministry. You may be surprised that Role #2 is developing leaders, and only the leadership of the local church can do it!
§ Understanding Biblical Mentoring -- a biblical process that is used to develop leaders for the ministry. Involving more than thus training classes, real leaders are developed in the context of a relationship with a mentor who is already a leader.
§ Mentoring in Your Church – Putting it all together, we offer practical suggestions on how to apply the principles of mentoring in your ministry to train up leaders for the ministry.

The workshop will be facilitated by one of our trained Workshop Faculty who has experience in using the concepts being discussed in their own local church and in conducting the workshop in other churches.

Monthly Update, Monday, October 2, 2006

Dear Friends,
This past month has been a blessed time of ministry for us. As you will see, it was packed full of activities and ministry opportunities. We began with a trip to Lawrence, Michigan to help celebrate 25 years of ministry for Glen and Ruth Cowles at East Arlington Baptist Church. EABC is one of our supporting churches, and Glen and Ruth have been good friends for about 24 years. It was fun to surprise them at the Sunday morning service and we had a wonderful time of remembering and appreciating all the Lord has done in their lives and the impact they have had in our lives. An added blessing was having our daughter Susan join us for that weekend.
The second weekend we were at Summit View Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina, where I did a workshop on Saturday and preached on Sunday Morning. Amy got to spend the day with some young friends, Nickolas and Jonathan, at the Greenville zoo while I did the workshop.
Each September I enjoy planning and hosting the BMW Golf Retreat. This year it was September 11-15. We had 9 or 10 each day to fellowship and play 36 holes of golf, and each night we spent some time in the Word. Each person that participated is planning to be back next year and expecting to bring some of their friends.
On September 16th we spent a fun day with our church family at Dacula First Baptist as we had our first Fall Festival with lots of games, hotdogs, hay rides and just good relaxing visits with our dear friends who are so supportive of our ministry and are always an encouragement to us.
The Fellowship of Missions annual meeting was held here at BMW on September 18-20. We hosted some of the delegates in our home and I attended the meetings while Amy helped Vince and Jill with cooking some of the meals.
We flew to Los Angeles on the 20th. We stayed two days at BMW’s Deaf/Blind ministry and I visited The Masters Seminary and also spoke at Los Angeles Bible Training School. Amy was able to spend some quality time with our missionary ladies who minister to the deaf and deaf/blind. Friday through Sunday (22-24) we were with Los Angeles Community Bible Church for their mission conference and I also did a workshop all day Saturday. We were encouraged by these believers who were so receptive to the principles taught in the workshop and so warm in their friendship to us. We left Los Angeles at 12:30 am, Monday, on the red eye flight back to Atlanta.
The last week I helped host a Pastors Summit at the BMW office. This was a great time of blessing to all who attended.
Thank you for praying for us. We appreciate getting notes and emails from some of you. God continues to give us good physical health and joy in serving Him. We post all our updates on our blogspot as well as some other items so check it out. www.jerrysmithBMW.blogspot.com
